Wanderlust Wednesday: Moorea, French Polynesia

"Paradise Found" in Moorea

Moorea, also referred to as Mo'orea,
is part of the Society Islands Archipelago of French Polynesia.

Geography:
Location: South Pacific
Coordinates: 17º32' S 149º 50' W
Area: 134 km² (51.7 sq miles)
Highest elevation: 1,207 m (3,960 ft)
Highest Point: Mont Tohive'a

I had the good fortune to visit Moorea back in 2002 when I was working as flight attendant on a private jet. We dropped the owner and his family off in the Marquesas Islands where they met up with their motor yacht. The plan was for the yacht to cruise around the Marquesas and make its way down to the Society Islands. The pilots and I flew to Tahiti, where we remained on "stand-by", while the family cruised around the islands. They popped in and out of Tahiti several times during the month to re-fuel and re-provision. So we, the crew, had the opportunity not only to enjoy Tahiti, but also to take the ferry over to Moorea a couple of times, and drive around the island.

My evolving "Wanderlust Wednesday" image post will now be accompanied by geographical information. Why? Because it's my blog and I love geography! Perhaps I will even add some geological information in the future. What do you think?
